Gary Diomandes, Chair and tenured Professor of Theatre Arts, came to Saint Mary's in 1988. He received his BA from Providence College, MAT from Rhode Island College, and Ph.D. from The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. His emphasis is in Reader's Theatre, Chamber Theatre, and Compilation Scripting. His play, The Mad Hitch Hiker and Other Stories, a compilation script on youth suicide was produced on campus, in area schools, and in London. Dr. Diomandes teaches Acting, Directing, Theatre Appreciation, Modern Movies, London Theatre: Page to Stage, Theatre in London, and Artscore.
In London, he has directed Diviners, Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Kennedy's Children, The Dining Room, Side by Side by Sondheim, The Mad Hitch Hiker and Other Stories, Museum, and Working. Shows directed at Saint Mary's have been The God of Hell, O Jerusalem, Cabaret, The Laramie Project, Zoo Story, Baby!, Our Country's Good, The House of Blue Leaves, The Boys Next Door, Agnes of God, Anything Goes, Dames at Sea, Godspell, Runaways, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Billy Bishop Goes to War, and many cabarets. He is also an adjunct faculty member for The Union Institute and University.
