Position Responsibilities
The Admission Counselor works to recruit students for the residential college of Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN.  This role will develop and maintain relationships with prospective students and their families as well as provide counsel throughout the admission process.  
  • At the direction of the Director of Student Recruitment, designs and executes an ongoing outreach and recruitment plan for designated territories
  • Implements recruitment strategies in the assigned territory to include high school visits, college fairs, local interviews and area events and receptions
  • Executes ongoing communication with students and families via phone, text, letters, e-mail and face-to-face meetings in defined territory
  • Provides guidance to students and families regarding admission requirements, financial aid, scholarships, residence life, registration, and other related enrollment activity
  • Reads admission applications, evaluates files and makes recommendations regarding admissibility to the university
  • Provides office coverage and support as required
  • Prepares and delivers admission presentations in a variety of settings
  • Works with  alumni, guidance counselors and community organizations to assist recruitment efforts
  • Completes reports regarding recruitment, travel, schedule and other related work items
  • Follows university procedure regarding travel and other activities associated with recruitment
  • Completes other projects as assigned that contribute to the success of the admission effort 
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Experience developing strong professional relationships and communicating effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience being diplomatic and collaborative in a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills: Solid understanding of the use of the Internet, Microsoft Office, Relational databases and CRM software experience strongly encouraged  
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Must be able to regionally travel during seasonal admission periods
  • Familiarity with, and an appreciation of, the value of a private liberal arts education

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
