The Department of Art and Design at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time assistant professor position in Graphic Design beginning fall semester, August 2018.
The assistant professor will carry a full-time teaching load, which currently includes four courses each semester. Personal scholarship and research are encouraged. The person in this position will join dedicated department faculty who are passionate about the continued success of our undergraduate art and design program. We are educators that encourage conceptual and aesthetic innovation through process development in a liberal arts environment. The department has a strong foundation in traditional media, while teaching students about practical client interaction and current industry standards.
Courses taught on rotation may include traditional and digital photography, art history, and foundation-level courses. Other duties include advising students, contributing to the internship program and promoting the department at all levels, as well as co-managing a computer lab, equipment, inventory, ordering, and work-study students. The position includes teaching Graphic Design I and II, Typography, print and interactive/web design, and Motion Graphics.
|Essential Skills and Abilities||
The candidate we seek should have expertise working with traditional and emerging media and be comfortable teaching both art and design students at the undergraduate level. The ideal candidate will have skills in traditional design principles, typography, print design, interactive/web design, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, experience in curriculum development, and is engaged in creative design research. Industry experience is strongly desirable.

|Education and Experience||
Qualifications: MFA in Graphic Design or related discipline, a fluency in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, and industry-standard print and web design software, HTML, CSS, and related technology is required. Must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship at all levels of the curriculum.
