Position Responsibilities
Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and the Office of Campus Safety is committed to provide an environment that is safe and secure 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for administering the daily safety, security and information desk functions for the campus and off-campus buildings. Job responsibilities include:
  • Provide security and safety functions campus-wide:  patrols, escorts, lock downs, alarms, emergencies, medical issues, and university events
  • Provide Campus Safety Desk support including dispatch/switchboard, directions, University contact information, lost & found, and other related services
  • Establish a positive rapport with students, staff and visitors to campus
  • Educate and enforce policies outlined in the Student Handbook
  • Complete incident reports and daily logs accurately
  • Assist and collaborate with various departments and staff to provide a safe environment
  • Supervise and train student workers
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, EMPOWER, Simplex Fire System, Access It Universal security system, and Milestone video recording system
  • Have a professional and friendly demeanor and provide excellent customer service
  • Have critical thinking skills and sound judgement during rapidly evolving emergency situations
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time and work outdoors year round.
  • Ability to work overnights, weekends, and holidays

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • College degree preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in public safety, security or leadership role preferred
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
