Position Responsibilities

The Custodian has the primary responsibility for cleaning various university facilities in such a way to promote health, safety and cleanliness. The Custodian follows cleaning schedules for various university facilities including, but not limited to, classrooms, dormitories, office areas, bathrooms/showers, storage areas, hallways, and entrances. The Custodian may also be responsible for performing additional duties related to general building and grounds maintenance.  This full time position is on 3rd shift and works 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday nights through Sunday mornings.  

Essential Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have effective interpersonal skills to work with students and worker groups.
  • Be able to do heavy lifting, bleacher setup, and other types of physical work.
  • Be able to climb and work from ladders.
  • Be able to work outside in the elements.
  • Be neat, well-groomed and maintain company uniforms in good condition.
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Up to 2 years of experience is preferred. Building trade schooling is preferred but not required. Familiarity with cleaning equipment and dexterity with hand tools desired.
