Position Responsibilities
The Field Placement Coordinator is responsible for securing placements for graduate students in their student teaching (initial license) and field experiences (added license) in three Saint Mary's programs:  MA in English as a Second Language, MA in Special Education and MA in Teaching.  This role will support the Field Placement Office Director in administrative and office needs, such as communicating with K-12 schools, attending meetings, conferences, assisting with projects, responding to email messages, and other related functions including:
Student eligibility for field placements
  • Determine number of placements for upcoming semesters
  • Communicate application process and provide materials to incoming learners
  • Timing and frequent communication with upcoming practicum students and student teachers
  • Verify field placement eligibility and collect required application documents
Database and Information Management
  • Assist in maintaining database for school/district contacts
  • School partnership location analysis and mapping
  • Record keeping for field placements
  • Create and maintain field placement communications for students
  • Initiate, develop and maintain contacts with schools
  • Communicate background check process and liability insurance requirement to students
Administrative support
  • Assist with tracking and reporting teacher licensure field placement data
  • Assist in distributing field placement materials and monitoring of students in a variety of school field placement settings
  • Assist with student teacher orientation and clinical field placement processes
  • Assist in the development of field placement forms, procedures, process

  • Written communication – edit work for spelling and grammar, present numerical data effectively and able to read and interpret written information.
  • Planning/organizing – prioritize and plan work activities, use time effectively and develop realistic action plans; ability to multitask and prioritize, managing a heavy workload in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Quality control – demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail and thorough monitoring of own work to ensure quality.  Proactive approach to improving processes and systems
  • Adaptability – adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent delays or unexpected events
  • Ability to understand, comply with and communicate teacher licensure related laws and regulations.
  • Dependable and self-motivated with the ability to operate independently, work proactively and achieve results without close supervision
  • Ability to learn and navigate a variety of technology platforms (Blackboard, TaskStream, Google Suite)

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor degree in Education, or Bachelor degree in another field with experience working in a school setting
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google Suite, Internet
  • Three years K-12 teaching experience preferred
