Position Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s and Women's Golf Coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is responsible for managing and leading all aspects of competitive Division III men’s and women's golf programs while adhering to the University mission, having academically successful student-athletes, and providing service learning opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the Division III philosophy, outstanding communication skills, dynamic leadership and motivational abilities, excellence in on-course teaching and student-athlete development, highly effective recruiting skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 
  • Work within the University mission to provide a competitive, unique, and memorable collegiate athletic experience for student-athletes
  • Instruct student-athletes in individual skills 
  • Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes within the scope of MIAC, NCAA, and university guidelines
  • Monitor team and individual academic success and degree completion
  • Maintain a program compliant with NCAA, MIAC, and University rules and guidelines
  • Build, develop, and maintain contacts and relations with athletic alumni
  • Fundraise for the program in conjunction with university, department, MIAC, NCAA guidelines
  • All necessary administrative responsibilities for the program
  • Budget management
  • Coordinate and supervise assistant coaches
Essential Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
  • Effectively teach individual aspects of golf
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes
  • Work nights, weekends and occasional holidays
  • Travel
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required. Competitive coaching at the high school, collegiate, and/or junior level preferred.
