Position Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Women's Hockey Coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is responsible for managing and leading all aspects of a competitive Division III women's hockey program while adhering to the University mission, having academically successful student-athletes, and providing service learning opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the Division III philosophy, outstanding communication skills, dynamic leadership and motivational abilities, excellence in on-ice teaching and player development, highly effective recruiting skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work within the University mission to provide a competitive, unique, and memorable collegiate athletic experience for student-athletes
  • Instruct student-athletes in individual and team skills 
  • Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes within the scope of MIAC, NCAA, and university guidelines
  • Monitor team and individual academic success and degree completion
  • Maintain a program compliant with NCAA, MIAC, and University rules and guidelines
  • Build, develop, and maintain contacts and relations with athletic alumni
  • Fundraise for the program in conjunction with university, department, MIAC, NCAA guidelines
  • All necessary administrative responsibilities for the program
  • Budget management
  • Coordinate and supervise assistant coaches
  • Assist in the management of the University’s on-campus ice arena
This position will be combined with other duties within the University to create a full-time, 10-month position.
Essential Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
  • Effectively teach team and individual aspects of hockey
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes
  • Work nights, weekends and occasional holidays
  • Travel
  The successful candidate must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's degree preferred. Competitive coaching at the high school, collegiate, and/or club level required.
