Position Responsibilities

The International Admission Counselor/Coordinator of International Student Services is responsible for international admission, student recruitment, and coordination of international student services for the Winona campus. This role will create and maintain relationships with prospective international students and their families as well as provide counsel throughout the admission process. This position serves as the primary Designated School Official (DSO) for the Winona campus, managing the immigration related processes for admission through post-graduation. The position also coordinates international student support services for the Winona campus.

  • Implements international recruitment strategies
  • Executes ongoing communication with students and families via phone, letters, e-mail and face-to-face meetings
  • Provides guidance to students and families regarding admission requirements, financial aid, scholarships, residence life and other related admission items
  • Reviews admission applications, evaluates files and makes recommendations regarding admissibility to the university
  • Prepares and delivers admission presentations in a variety of settings
  • Manages some of the relationships with international recruiting agents
  • Implements the international student arrival and orientation program
  • Works in concert with staff in the International Center to develop an activity schedule, implement activities and provide special support resources for international students
  • Provides opportunities for international students to share their cultural traditions with the College community
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Fluency in a second language preferred; Spanish or Mandarin preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Experience developing strong professional relationships and communicating effectively with diverse groups of people
  • Strong computer skills: understanding of the use of the Internet, Microsoft Office, relational databases and CRM software experience strongly encouraged
  • Must be able to travel internationally to 2-3 major recruitment events annually

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 3 years of higher education or related experience; master’s preferred
  • Experience in international recruitment and with international students required
  • Experience as a DSO, ARO or PDSO required
  • Familiarity with private liberal arts education
