Position Responsibilities
The Network and System Technician is the main point of contact for the Geospatial Services (GSS) Program and will help coordinate support for their systems, including but not limited to:  hardware acquisition, workstation and server support, and end user/application support.  This position will provide additional server and software support outside of the GSS program as needed.  This role will also provide support for the wireless network on the Winona campus which includes the monitoring of access points, signal strength, and the overall reliability of wireless signal.
  • Provide primary technical computer support for GSS on a half time basis
  • Assist with VMWare System and Microsoft Server support
  • Provide wireless network maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting
  • Install, configure, test, and monitor access points and controllers
  • Provide support for end users utilizing wireless resources
  • Respond to system alerts as appropriate
  • Review/clear system logs weekly/monthly
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN technologies and hardware
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills; maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
  • Promote a positive image of the ITS department
  • Use/interpret job related terminology, effectively and efficiently
  • Occasional off-hour and weekend support for special events including upgrades

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree required.  Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field, Certifications (A+, Microsoft, etc) preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
