| |  | Register to take standardized tests like the ACT or SAT. |
| |  | Meet with your college counselor to draft a prospective college list. |
| |  | Investigate schools on your prospective college list. |
| |  | Visit prospective colleges over spring break, if possible. |

| |  | Create a resume for yourself so when you begin to apply to colleges, you will remember your activities and honors. |
| |  | Take AP Exams. |
| |  | Work hard to make your junior-year grades as good as possible! |
| Mid-June to Mid-August |
| |  | Continue to research schools on your prospective college list. |
| |  | Remember Minnesota Private College Week – the last week of June! |
| |  | Visit prospective schools over the summer, if possible. |
| |  | Read college literature and guide books and visit college websites. |
| |  | Call, write or email to get on mailing lists for all of your prospective schools. |
| |  | Begin working on an essay if your prospective colleges require one. |
| |  | Fill out a sample application form to become familiar with the process and collect all the information you will typically need. |

| SENIOR YEAR |
| Mid-August to September |
| |  | Meet with your college counselor to finalize your college application list. |
| |  | Re-register to take the ACT, SAT I and/or SAT II, if needed. |
| |  | Work on college application essays. |
| |  | Decide which teachers you’ll ask to write recommendation letters, if needed. |
| October |
| |  | Watch for Saint Mary's first Group Overnight Visit! |
| |  | If you haven't visited already, do so during Minnesota Education Days (formerly MEA). |
| |  | Give your college counselor his/her portion of an application at least two weeks before its due date. |
| |  | Confirm plans for your teacher recommendation. |
| November |
| |  | Submit your application if you haven't already done so, and don't forget that it's free to apply online at www.smumn.edu/apply! |
| |  | Watch for Saint Mary's second Group Overnight Visit. |
| |  | Sign up for one of our coveted Chicago interview slots. |
| December |
| |  | Start looking at SMU's Merit-Based Scholarships, getting additional letters of recommendation, essays and other material needed together. |
