This week, for my Modern Movies class, I attended the Frozen River Film Festival. Each year this film festival takes place on the campuses of Saint Mary’s and Winona State. The films that I saw were presented in a large lecture hall at Saint Mary’s, and it was more crowded than I have ever seen it. Students and viewers were packed in with standing room only.
The movies that I saw were part of the “adrenaline series”. They featured mostly extreme sports. One of my favorites was Into Darkness which was about exploring caves. The room was filled with ooo’s and ahhh’s at the small spaces the men climbed through! My second favorite movie was called Cold, and it was about the journey of some mountain climbers to the top of a 26,000 foot peak in Pakistan. Overall, it was a great experience and very interesting to see these extreme sports!
