It is one of my favorite events on campus and it has brought me a lot of great memories. My sophomore year a friend of mine and I closed the show. It was awesome and overall just a ton of fun. Its something I will cherish forever.

It was a great event on campus and it allowed me to experiment with sound equipment and sound setups. I had the two main speakers that the fraternity and two sub-woofers. Additionally, I used the two of the six monitors to allow the DJ to hear what he was doing and I used the other four as side fills. I also used four Mackie self powered speakers to fill in the sound from the sides and rear. I love this event because it is able to raise money and able to allow students on campus to go somewhere. This event also utilizes all of the lighting equipment Phi Mu Alpha owns and just provides a great environment for students.

Two of them were heavier bands by the names of Fail To Decay and L.U.M. The other bands were a swing punk band called Swing Set Rebels. They had a killer show and I thought they were a ton of fun. The other band was a band called The Crowbars. It was a great battle and was very diverse. For the bands I was not in I ran sound for and helped monitor the show. It was a ton of fun and I am very, very glad with the results. Now I am going to record more of my music since people seemed to really enjoy what we did. I will keep you all updated on that.

I have made some youtube videos for this dance and I have plastered the campus in very different ways with posters. It has been a great opportunity for me to communicate with different groups on campus and try to get the entirety of campus to come to this event. It is exciting and terrifying to me. If this flops it will surely be my fault. But I think this is going to be one of the most fun events to happen second semester. I really hope it turns out well. I will let you guys know how it goes!

I have been involved for several years and had a show my entire time at Saint Mary’s. Often times some Mass Communications classes have to do a show on there. It has been fascinating to watch this system grow and to be involved with the technical sides and the legal sides. I suggest this for any person on campus. You can do any type of show and it is a good experience.

This is going to be awesome for me. I will essentially have several hours material to work with and I will be able to use that in my portfolio. Additionally, I will be able to say I have recorded a massive amount of instruments. I am very excited to do this. I will also be able to show my skills and help my peers. It is going to be a very crucial field exploration for me. I am very, very excited.

This year the first big event for me is the Saint Mary’s Battle Of The Bands. I have been spending sometime writing my own music and I am putting together a group to play and to perform. I am excited to see what the different bands will be and I am excited to tackle the technical needs for this show.

The next event is Fireside. This is something that is put on by the Sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota. It is an acoustic show similar to Gaslight and Blue Angel. It’s a great opportunity for different styles of musicians to perform. I love this event because it was one of the first real hands on opportunities I had to run and I loved being able to make decisions for the show. It is one of my favorite memories from school.

After that is the Multi-cultural show. I run sound for that and support the show from a technical side. Its always a very different show. Some years its heavy music and sometimes it is heavy in dance pieces. But either way, it is a very interesting show to watch and to monitor.

I am also on the committee for the Minnesota Day at the Capital. I am going to post more information about that as I get more information about what I am going to be doing. It is going to be exciting.

Arts administration is taught by a professor named Larry Gorrell and the audio class is taught by Brett Huus. Brett has a ton of experience in my field and has a Grammy for what he has done. It has been a very good class to learn from and he is a great mentor.

Additionally, 2nd semester is filled with events that I will keep you all updated on.

What a CRAZY semester. I am sad and glad to see the semester end. It is very bittersweet. I am excited to start new classes but also sad because I really enjoyed the classes. Additionally, the end of the semester means juries for the music department and finals. Juries are always a blast, I think. I like seeing what I have accomplished over the semester musically come to a climax. Additionally, it allows me to have a recap and be able to look back at the semester and see how far I have come.

Finals always scare me. But the important thing is to remember you worked very hard the semester and that there really is nothing to be scared about. If you have done all your work and worked all semester then you have nothing to worry about. It is also nice having study days and being able to just focus on your work and studies. I like the end.

Additionally, this means I get to go home. I am not able to go home often, due to where I live. I love Saint Mary’s but its nice to go home and be with family. Especially for the holidays. I am also thankful to have a long break in which I can do this.

In closing, its been a wonderful semester. I am so glad to be done but still sad. Its bittersweet. A semester flies by and before you know it, the semester is done. Its insane how this progresses and how fast it flies by.

I love mixing big groups like the jazz ensemble. And I love the theater’s sound setup. It is a digital board with several on board processors that are fantastic. Additionally, the theater sound system sounds phenomenal. Since the system doesn’t really ever change, the room can be equalized to absolute perfection. It was wonderful being able to mix this. I really like helping my friend and peers and I think this is something that is extremely necessary in the music field. I love mixing shows like this. Its great.
