Winona Campus Commencement

Winona campus Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs commencement will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

Live video of the Winona campus graduate commencement ceremony will be available online, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Graduation and Commencement Application

All eligible students are required to submit a completed Application for Graduation and Commencement no later than March 15, 2013, even if they do not plan to participate in the May 11, 2013 commencement ceremonies.

To complete the Graduation and Commencement Application, please login to your Student Academic Record page in WebTools. Open the SGPP Graduation Application for 05/11/2013 link, complete the form noting any changes and SUBMIT.

A university graduation fee of $190.00 will be charged automatically to your account when you submit this form. (There is no reduction in fee if you choose not to participate in commencement.)

Diploma and official transcripts will not be released for any student who has an outstanding balance with the Business Office.

Eligibility

Students enrolled in programs in the Institute for Pastoral Ministries and in the M.A. in Philanthropy and Development must complete all degree requirements by April 1, 2013 to be eligible for the May 11, 2013 commencement ceremony.

For all other programs, students must be able to demonstrate to their respective program director a plan for completion of all degree requirements by August 25, 2013 in order to be eligible to participate in the May 11, 2013 commencement ceremony.

May commencement eligibility will be confirmed the first week of April 2013. Any questions regarding your eligibility for participation should be directed to your program director. All students intending to complete their degree by August 25, 2013, are required to submit a completed Application for Graduation and Commencement no later than March 15, 2013, even if they do not plan to participate in commencement.

PLEASE NOTE: Participation in commencement is not a certification of completion of your degree. Your degree completion date may be different than your commencement date.

Limited parking is available. A shuttle service will be provided by a nearby parking lot. More information on parking shuttle service will be available soon.

Ceremony

The Winona Campus will hold a joint ceremony with Winona undergraduate and graduate students on May 11, 2013. The commencement ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held in the gymnasium on the Winona campus. The gymnasium will open at approximately 10:00 a.m. for guest seating. Tickets are not required; however we ask that you limit your guests to 4-6 per student. The gymnasium seating includes a limited number of chairs, but is primarily bleacher seating. The gymnasium will accommodate the vast majority of the anticipated guests; however, other seating venues will be provided. The other venues for seating include the Gymnasium Lobby and the Performance Center. Video links will project the ceremony to these locations on large screens and will offer an unobstructed view of the ceremony. The Gymnasium Lobby is often a good place for seating if you have small children, as it provides space for them to move around. The Performance Center is air conditioned and offers comfortable padded seating. Students will be hooded as they proceed toward the stage; students will then proceed across the stage as their names are called and receive a diploma envelope.

Required check-in for graduates is between 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Gymnasium. All students are required to check-in before lining up in Gostomski Fieldhouse. All students need to report to Gostomski Fieldhouse in full regalia by 10:15 a.m. Students will line up by program and program locations will be marked. Please wear comfortable shoes and plan to leave personal belongings with friends or family.

Reception

All graduates and guests are invited to a light reception following the ceremony. The reception will be held outside on the Plaza. In the event of inclement weather, it will be held in the Gostomski Fieldhouse.

Academic Costume

Academic costume is traditional. Students wear the traditional gown, which is black with a sleeve opening near the wrist. Caps are worn with black tassels only.

Saint Mary's will use the information provided on the Graduation and Commencement Application Form to order cap, gown, tassel and hood. Your regalia will be mailed directly to you from Jostens Inc. in April. The exception to this is our M.Ed. students who will receive their academic regalia from site facilitators.

Diplomas

Diploma envelopes will be presented at the ceremony. Actual diplomas will be mailed approximately 3 to 6 weeks following the ceremony or when the student has successfully completed all degree requirements and all outstanding balances are paid in full.

Disability Accommodations

Handicapped parking is available on campus. Anyone needing special accommodations for seating in the gymnasium should call (507) 457-1586 to make arrangements prior to the ceremony.

In order to honor all special needs section seating requests, one additional guest may sit with the individual requesting special needs seating. A sign language interpreter will be available at the ceremony.

Lifetouch will take a full-color photograph of students as they receive their diploma envelopes. Degree candidates will each receive information regarding the options to purchase portraits. Questions regarding commencement photographs should be directed to Tom Olson at (507) 458-6867 or tolson@lifetouch.com.

Financial Obligations

Student accounts must be paid in full in order to receive diplomas and transcripts. Graduates are still eligible to march in the ceremony, even if your account has not been paid in full. You can view your account in WebTools. If you have questions concerning your bill, contact SMU Central at (612) 238-4566.
