Considering a change in careers? Interested in the vibrant field of teaching? Our M.A. in Instruction (MAI) program is tailored to serve you. The program is designed for those who have a bachelor’s degree but little or no previous coursework or experience in education. Whether you’ve recently graduated or have spent years pursuing another career, it’s never too late to make the transition to a career in teaching.
Program Structure
The MAI program prepares students to become licensed teachers in the state of Minnesota. Master’s coursework focuses on cultivating teacher leadership and scholarship through research. Students choose from the following teacher preparation areas:
- Elementary Education (Kâ6) with a Middle School (5â8) endorsement
- Secondary Education (5â12)
Communication Arts and Literature
Mathematics
Social Studies
Life Science
Physical Science - Specialty licensure (Kâ12)
World Languages
Visual Art
Music
Teaching Standards
The program is based on the standards required by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. All standards and requirements must be satisfactorily completed prior to recommendation to the state for licensure.
