Marianne Schwalen completed her masters and doctoral degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in 1997. Her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota was in English education and she taught high school English in a previous career. She worked as a counselor to students at Hamline University and then had a private practice in St. Paul for about 15 years, working with adults as individuals, couple, and in groups. She has been at Saint Mary's University since 2000, primarily teaching Theories of Personality. Professional interests, in addition to personality, include neuroscience research, trauma and recovery, therapist development, and the intersection of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology.
