John McClay received his master degree and doctorate degree from Northern Illinois University, and his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. He retired in 2008 from 33 years of full-time practice as director of the counseling service of a large (13,000+ members) Lutheran church in southwest Minneapolis. He has been on-site supervisor for more than thirty master’s and doctoral interns, half of whom were from Saint Mary’s. Since retiring, he has been an adjunct professor at both SMU and the University of St. Thomas, teaching master’s and doctoral ethics courses, counseling theories and techniques, and supervising doctoral interns.
