Daytime Homeschool Enrichment Program & Classes

The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts offers a daytime classes specifically designed for homeschool students. With a special focus on collaboration and artistry, homeschool classes and daytime performances are the perfect addition to any homeschool curriculum. Families can take advantage of our family discount and enjoy free Wi-Fi in the lobby if they decide to wait while classes are in session. The annual Homeschool Art Exhibit in Galleria Valencia is a perfect way to showcase and motivate your young visual artists.  MCA is also able to create customized classes and workshops in dance, theatre, music and visual art for homeschooled students to suit your groups needs.  Please contact Jamie at 507-453-5501 or jschwaba@smumn.edu for more information.

NEW! Homeschool Dance Discovery

Want to try dance, but you’re not sure which style to choose? During this sampler class will learn about and test out a variety of dance styles from Jazz to Modern and Musical Theatre to Ballet.  Student’s will love expressing themselves through movement, gaining knowledge of different dance forms and benefit from moving in space with others. The class will get to vote on their favorite style to repeat the final week of class for demonstration week. No prior dance experience necessary.

Day/Dates: Mondays, Jan. 16-March 6

Time: 1pm-2pm

Age: 8-12 years

Homeschooler Theatre classes will be offered again during the Winter session of 2017.

The third annual Winona Area Homeschool Art show will take place January 2017.  It is free to participate in this show and it is open to homeschool students of all ages, announcements will be made through the Winona Area Homeschoolers, but others may contact Megan at: 507-453-5500 or mca@smumn.edu for details. Items for the show may be dropped off starting Dec. 4-Dec.21. Students may submit more than one piece of art (only 2-D pieces that can be tapped or pinned on the wall) and as space permits extra pieces will be hung. View the current Galleria Valencia Schedule.

Each year MCA offers a variety of live performances including Dance Concerts, Music Division and Jazz Combos Concerts, Theatrical performances and more.  Many of these performances are free and open to the public.  Other performances including our annual Spring Dance Concert and biennial production of classic ballet, The Nutcracker (Dec. 2018 will be our next Nutcracker production) hold special abridged daytime matinees at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota’s Page Theatre, designed for groups of young audience members and are offered at the discounted rate of only $3 per performance.  For information about matinee performances please visit the Page Theatre. NEW! Homeschool Songwriting Workshop with Amanda Grace

Have you always wanted to try to write a song? Here is your chance to join kids your age in a group setting; working side by side with local singer/songwriter Amanda Grace on a song that YOU help write! Students will enjoy getting lost in the process and showcasing their song with a live performance on the last day of class. Read about our songwriting showcase last summer.
