MCA’s Theatre Division offers programming through classes, workshops, children’s theatre productions, and summer camps . Curriculum includes classes in: acting, musical theatre, audition technique, puppetry, technical theatre, stage combat, make-up, character development, playwriting, theatre games, and improvisation. Theatre students not only perfect stage skills, but they also develop important life skills such as confidence, teamwork, the ability to adapt to the moment, creativity, and how to observe the world around them.

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is back! Students aged 7-18 will be cast in the original musical production of “Robin Hood”. Any student registered will be cast in this week-long production. All cast members are required to participate in the audition process on April 23rd to determine their role. Cast members MUST be available for rehearsals Monday- Friday, 4pm-8:15pm and performances on Friday April 28th at 7pm and Saturday, April 29th at 2pm. Performances are in MCA’s Academy Theatre at the Valencia Arts Center.

NEW! Stage Combat Basics
An introduction to the fine art of [not] beating people up on stage! These workshops will cover the basics of stage combat: safety, partnering, and commitment to the scene, using unarmed and knife techniques. (All equipment will be provided and safe for stage.) Come dressed to move, bring a water bottle, and get ready to throw some fake punches!
Ages: High School to adult

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts will be inviting local students ages 7-18 to participate in a week-long theatre production experience. The show will be Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre’s original musical production of “Robin Hood”.
Local young people are needed to play the roles of: Robin Hood, Cook Henny, Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlett, Maid Marian, her Tutors Ariel, Juliette, and Wilhelmina, Prince John, The Sheriff of Nottingham’s daughters Anabel and Jezebel, The Sheriff’s Deputies, Bluebell, Poppy, The Faeries, “Grunt” The King of the Gnomes, and Gnomes of Sherwood Forest. Two professional actor/directors from Prairie Fire will direct the production and play the roles of Flora, The Queen of the Faeries and The Sheriff of Nottingham.
Any student age 7 -18 may register to participate. The fee to register will be $65 per child. Everyone who registers will be cast (unless cast capacity is reached), but will be required participate in the audition process on April 24th which could take up to two hours so they can be cast in the appropriate role. No preparation is necessary. A portion of the cast will be required to stay following the auditions for a rehearsal session. Rehearsals will be held throughout the remainder of the week between the hours of 4pm-8:15pm, with performances scheduled for Friday, April 28th at 7pm & Saturday, April 29th at 2pm, at the Valencia Arts Center (home of MCA).
Tickets to the performance will be $5 per person and will be available at the door, 1 hour prior to the performance.

NEW! From Page to Stage
From majestic far-away places to the steps of a Broadway theatre, the written word will be used to ignite your creativity and imagination as you sculpt, act, dance, paint, sing, draw, and drum. Will you be inspired by Hobbits, Oz, an orphanage, or wardrobes? Friends and family will be invited on the last day for a visual and performing arts showcase. Students will be asked to bring a bagged lunch, snack and water bottle each day.

Winona Arts Camp 2017: Improv Everywhere “Unexpected in the Arts”
Join MCA and Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) for the 3rd annual integrated arts summer camp. This year’s theme is “Improv Everywhere.” Get ready to think quick on your feet, flex your creative muscles and discover the joy of the unexpected in music, theatre, dance and visual arts. Families are invited to attend a lively showcase at 3pm on final day of camp.

Time: 9:00- 3:30 p.m.
Age: 2nd – 4th & 5th – 8th grade
Price: $175 (Early Bird Special), $199 (after May 31). Fee includes camp t-shirt, daily snack and admission to the MMAM. Students will need to bring a lunch and water bottle daily.
NEW! Super Artist Camp
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a Super Camper! During this week long adventure campers will hone their creative super powers. Exploration in dance, theatre, music and visual arts to take their art to new heights. Families are invited to an open house at 10:15am on the last day of camp.
