Family Programs at MCA

With busy work and school schedules we know it can be hard to find time to do things as a family so in addition to producing a variety of music, theatre and dance performances for you and your family to enjoy we have 4 classes that will help families make memories, get creative and learn together. Below are descriptions of our Family Classes, but you may also want to check out our Events listing to find out about  #MCAontheGo events & performances out in the community. Don’t miss our Pajama Jazzboree on March 14th and Artaria Quartet Family Concert on March 23rd. Both of these concerts are free and designed just for your family!

NEW! Family Arts Academy

Family Arts Academy workshops are FREE monthly themed multi-arts experiences that invite the whole family to learn new skills, meet local artists and have fun creating together. Come to one or all, pre-registration recommended. Geared towards kids ages 3-12 and their families, but all ages are welcome.

Music for Little Movers

You and your child will squeal with delight as you wiggle and spin with Amanda to both original and favorite preschool songs. This class will explore new topics each week including colors, animals, and seasons. It is designed to develop your child’s motor skills, tickle their ears and create a fun memories.

NEW! Family Irish

Teen & Adult Irish

Will your family be ready for St. Patrick’s Day this year? This is your chance to spend quality time as a family making memories that will last a lifetime as you exercise and learn basic Irish jibs, reel steps and ceili dances.

My Grown-up and Me

My Grown up & Me

Does your child love to move?  Children ages 18 mos. – 3 years old are invited to explore a new environment and connect with a special grown-up in their life.   This class will stimulate coordination, balance and listening skills and will be filled with smiles to last a lifetime!  Grown-ups attending will be asked to participate along with their child.

Beginning Guitar

Learning guitar can be lots of fun, especially in a group setting! This class shows you tips, games, and activities that make learning enjoyable.  Geared for the absolute beginner, seasoned players are also welcome to join in and get a fresh perspective on the instrument. We’ll present the fundamentals of  strumming, chord vocabulary, reading music, rhythm, tone, and other elements of music for both group activities and solo playing.  A variety of styles, songs, and even instruments will be explored.  So, pick up your guitar and join us. We’ll use the “Complete Hal Leonard Guitar Method” by Will Schmid and Greg Koch as our main text.  See you in class!

Winter 2016: Saturdays, Jan. 28-March 25

Time: 11am-Noon

Ages: 7 – adult

Fee: $88 (make it a family affair- register a child and a parent can attend for free)

Suzuki Guitar

Parents!  Come learn how to teach your little one the guitar and have fun doing it.  Geared for parents with children ages 4-6 years old, The Suzuki Guitar Method is based on the way a child acquires language.  Besides instilling the gift of music, it is also an opportunity to bond with your child while teaching socialization skills, patience, persistence, community, respect, problem solving, and joyful participation.  Our instructor, Kerry Klungtvedt,  is a nationally registered Suzuki Teacher with many years of experience. This program is comprised of a mix of parent only, parent & child, group and private lessons. For this exciting pilot program participation is very limited but guitars will be issued to both parents and children to use throughout the program.

Winter: Saturdays, Jan. 28-March 25

Time: class 10:00am-10:30am, lesson scheduled directly prior or after

Age: 4-6 years old with a parent or guardian
