New Partnership brings Arts to the YMCA

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts is so excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Winona YMCA this summer. We will be bringing our top notch instructors, curriculum, and teaching tools to the community on to the YMCA (207 Winona Street, Winona, MN) to offer new opportunities for members of the community to explore the arts. All of the week-long camps are only $35 for YMCA Members and $45 for Non-Members.

Schmidt Accepted to Prestigious Ballet Teaching Certification Program

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is proud to announce that MCA Director of Dance, Tammy Schmidt is 1 of 15 instructors selected to attend American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) National Training Curriculum program in New York City this August to become an ABT Certified Teacher for Pre-Primary- Level 3.

2017 National Tap Dance Celebration

Each year tap celebrations are held throughout the nation in honor of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s birthday. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity celebrate right here in Winona! Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA), beginning through advanced tappers will be highlighted in this free performance in the Figliulo Recital Hall on the Saint Mary’s University Campus. The performance is Sunday, May 21st at 7:00 p.m.

Calling all Aspiring Comic Book Artists

Got a super hero fan or art lover on your hands?

Bring your kiddo to MCA for our final visual art workshop of the school year on May 6th, “Create a Comic”. This workshop is in celebration of the holiday Free Comic Book Day (Always the first Saturday in May). Free Comic Book Day was established in 2002 and is a day that participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comic books and celebrate the art of comic books.

In the spotlight today are Saint Mary’s University’s very own Annabeth Kerr and Kyleigh Chandler. Coming in as musical theater majors, Kerr and Chandler were exposed to MCA through Tammy Schmidt, Artistic Director of the Dance Repertory Company and Director of Dance for MCA, right away.

WAPS Art Exhibit at MCA

Galleria Valéncia at Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is filled unique pieces of artwork created by Jeffery Morgan’s art students at Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS). The few selected pieces are mostly from Sept.-Dec. 2016 from Kindergarten- 4th grade art classrooms at Washington-Kosciusko Elementary, Goodview Elementary and Rollingstone Community School.

Community Portrayed Through Dance

A love for the arts is what drew Tammy Schmidt to Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts. Schmidt has been at MCA since 1999 and has worn many different hats throughout the years. As the Artistic Director for MCA’s Dance Repertory and choreographer, Schmidt has been a key player in the Deeply Rooted production. The first half of the concert is a contemporary ballet piece titled The Southern Ties that Bind which Schmidt choreographed.
