A guide for completing your Music Education Major

The paradigm below is one example of how this major may be completed. Students may use elective credits to explore other majors or to enroll in skill-building courses in mathematics, reading, writing and/or study skills. With planning, students may also use elective credits to complete a minor, enroll in a practicum or internship, or study abroad. It is the student's responsibility to complete all major and university requirements. Please consult with your advisor for the most current information. Students enrolled in the Lasallian Honors Program should consult with its program director for the appropriate sequence of courses.

Student teaching Semester: 15 credits, fall of fifth year after completion of course work.
ED480 Student Teaching: K-12 Classroom and Instrumental 13 cr.
ED250 Human Relations, Cultural Diversity& Indian Cultures 2 cr.

*Students can apply no more than 4 semester credits of music ensembles toward the minimum graduation requirement of 122 semester credits.

Please Note: It is advisable that students fulfill disciplinary studies courses during summer study to reduce the semester course load. If a student is able to take a number of general education courses over the summer, a four-year completion plan may be possible. If you are interested in exploring this possibility please speak with your advisor and plan your course work accordingly.

If a student wishes to become double licensed (K-12 classroom instrumental and K-12 classroom vocal) the standards must be met in both areas, including student teaching. This will require additional course work and additional student teaching time. Music Education licensure requirements are subject to revision due to State Board of Teaching requirements.
