Janeé Harteau honored with Distinguished Alumna Award
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau ’03, M’06 was recognized as a distinguished alumnus and received a Distinguished Alumna Award from Saint Mary’s during the University’s fall commencement ceremony for its Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs on Oct. 13 at the Twin Cities campus’s University Center. She was honored along with hundreds of graduates who received diplomas during the three Sunday ceremonies. Awards were also presented for outstanding final papers and reflections were given by six graduates of bachelor of science and master’s programs.
Harteau received a bachelor’s degree in Police Science in 2003 and a master’s degree in Public Safety Administration in 2006. Today she is an adjunct assistant professor in Saint Mary’s Police Science program. Harteau joined the Minneapolis Police Department in 1987 and she worked her way through the ranks before becoming chief in 2013. She has met with President Barack Obama multiple times on issues related to gun control and public safety.
Four other outstanding alumni were honored during the University’s All-Program Centennial Reunion on June 17, 2013.
