International symposium examines and encourages Lasallian research

The university is taking a visible leadership role in the Lasallian world of education as it gathered international researchers, college presidents and top administrators on the Twin Cities campus Oct. 27-29 to discuss the future needs and direction for Lasallian research.

The Lasallian Research Symposium this year was designed for dialogue about the key characteristics or areas that comprise the field of Lasallian research today; to look beyond a study solely of the origins, tradition and heritage in Lasallian research; to break open the possibilities for Lasallian research in 21st-century North America; and to propose avenues or topics for future Lasallian research.

The event was hosted by our Institute for Lasallian Studies and co-sponsored by the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) and the International Association of Lasallian Universities (IALU). Brother William and other Saint Mary’s faculty and administrators were involved and gave presentations, while keynote speakers included: Dr. Arnulfo Ascarraga, professor, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines; Brother Diego Munoz, director of Lasallian research and resources, Brothers of the Christian Schools, Rome, Italy; and Dr. Susan Hines, director of faculty development, SMU’s Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs.
