Saint Mary’s University renews lease for Apple Valley location

MINNEAPOLIS — Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota recently signed a lease to continue its longtime presence in Apple Valley, Minn.

“We’re making sure people have access to affordable and convenient higher education,” said Brother Robert Smith, vice president for Saint Mary’s Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs. “It’s part of the Saint Mary’s mission.”

Saint Mary’s has provided education to thousands of adult learners in the Twin Cities metropolitan area for decades. Thirty years ago Saint Mary’s began offering classes at its current Twin Cities Campus location (2500 Park Avenue, Minneapolis) and today the university also has dedicated local sites in Apple Valley, Oakdale and Rochester, Minn. Apple Valley became a location for the institution’s graduate and professional programs 10 years ago.

The Apple Valley lease renewal has occurred at a time when Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) and Inver Hills Community College (IHCC) have ended their participation in the Partners in Higher Education endeavor. While Saint Mary’s previously rented space at 14200 Cedar Ave., Apple Valley from DCTC, it will now rent directly from the city.

According to Gena Bilden, associate vice president for enrollment management and student services at Saint Mary’s, the number of students in Apple Valley has increased to more than 500. This center on the south side of the river serves Saint Mary’s students in the southern Twin Cities’ suburbs, including Apple Valley, Burnsville, Lakeville and Eagan. “Some students have come from as far away as Hastings or Faribault to earn their degrees at the center in Apple Valley,” Bilden said.

Saint Mary’s currently offers the following programs in Apple Valley:

  • B.S. in Business Administration
  • B.S. in Human Resource Management
  • B.S. in Marketing
  • B.S. in Police Science
  • B.S. in Sales and Marketing
  • M.A. in Education
  • M.A. in Educational Leadership
  • M.A. in Literacy Education
  • M.A. in Management
  • MBA (Master’s of Business Administration)
  • Ed.S. in Educational Administration
  • M.Ed in Teaching and Learning

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota awakens, nurtures and empowers learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. A private Lasallian Catholic institution, Saint Mary’s offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs. About 1,200 students are enrolled in the residential undergraduate college in Winona, established in 1912. Approximately 4,300 students are enrolled in the schools of graduate and professional programs, which offers master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as bachelor’s degree completion, certificate and specialist programs. The university delivers education to adults through campuses in Winona, Minneapolis and Nairobi, Kenya; centers in Apple Valley, Oakdale and Rochester; and at numerous other locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Jamaica. Saint Mary’s is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
