Women’s Basketball clinches MIAC championship
By Nikki Fennern,
Saint Mary’s University, Athletic Director
MIAC CHAMPS! Wow — there has been quite a buzz around campus recently as the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team has been having a spectacular season.
The Cardinals recently clinched the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship after posting a 21-2 regular season record. They now boast a 23-2 overall record. It’s the program’s third conference title.
The squad has earned the number one seed in the six-team conference tournament and the first-round bye that comes with it. Saint Mary’s will play host to the lowest remaining seed on Thursday. With a win, the Cardinals will advance to play in the championship game on Saturday at Saint Mary’s. We are anticipating large crowds and great playoff atmospheres for their upcoming games.
The Cardinal players are well known within the MIAC — especially senior Courtney Euerle, who recently earned her third MIAC Athlete of the Week honor. But the Cardinals are also being recognized around the country. The squad recently landed the number 13 spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and is also holding the number 18 spot in the latest D3hoops.com poll.
We are very excited to see what the Cardinals can do during their playoff run and are thrilled to see the Cardinal Pride being shown on campus as our community supports these athletes and coaches.
