Alumni in Action: John Tschida — educator, coach, mentor
In 2004 (at the University of St. Thomas) he became the first softball coach to win NCAA championships at two different schools. Tschida is also a two-time NFCA Division III Coach of the Year and is the winningest Division III fastpitch coach, active or retired. He has been the MIAC coach of the year eight times, has multiple MIAC championships, and each of his teams has been ranked nationally.
An impressive and well-respected coach and mentor, Tschida has had hundreds of student athletes who have proudly called him “coach.” He was an active student at Saint Mary’s and a four-year letter-winner for the baseball team. He is a member of the SMU Sports Hall of Fame as both a player and coach.
