Faculty Information

Matt Nowakowski is the PowerTrak MBA Director.  He received his MBA from Edgewood College and BS from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  Currently, Matt is a Doctoral Candidate in Education Leadership with his research focused on the academic resilience of graduate students.  He has worked extensively in Asia and Scandinavia in the development of marketing and distribution channels.  Matt has taught a variety of economics and leadership courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. 
 
Dr. Rick Callaway is the PowerTrak MBA Assistant Director. He received his MBA and PhD-Finance from Indiana University, and BA from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Rick has taught a variety of finance, operations and economics courses while on faculty at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Louisiana State University and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Rick is also an active entrepreneur in the Twin-Cities area.

Michael Arfsten received his MBA from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. He earned his M.A. and B.A. in Psychology from California State University Fresno, CA. His is a Chief Information Officer for Southside Community Health Services, INC. He provides leadership on technology, information systems, strategy, and financial planning, compliance, and reporting. He has taught at the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno, CA. He maintained SPSS Statistics software, lectured on research methodology and statistical analysis for student dissertation projects.

 

James S. Arnott is an ABD in Administration/Leadership from the University of San Francisco and M.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Minnesota. He earned a B.S. in Education and a B.A. in Speech/English at Minnesota State University at Mankato. He has taught at the Graduate Business School of Metropolitan State University and the University of St. Thomas. 

Chuck Bartley received his M.B.T. from the Carlson School of Management and his B.S. in accounting from the University of Mary. He has taught at the University of St. Thomas, Metropolitan State University, Cardinal Stritch University and National American University. Mr. Bartley has over twenty years of experience as a practicing CPA.
 
Bud Becker received his M.A. from Illinois State University and his B.A. from Wheaton College. He has taught in the Master of International Management program at the University of St. Thomas since 1988. Bud has acted as Vice President of Curriculum Development at Human Capital Corporation and Vice President of Internal Data Processing at Control Data Corporation. He also serves on the board of a charter middle school. 
 
Emmanuel Benson received his MBA from Saint Mary’s University of MN. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State University. He is currently a Financial Analyst for Green Tree Financial LLC. His professional skills include: Capital Budgeting, Corporate Valuation, Discounted Cash Flow Analysis, Financial Planning and Budgeting, Cash Flow Estimation and Analysis and GAAP Accounting, Descriptive Statistics and Analysis, Break-even Analysis, and Portfolio Management.
 
Adolfo Cardona received his M.B.A. and B.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Marketing. He has taught at Bethel College and acted as the Director of the Graduate Marketing Program at Javeriana University. He is an international consultant for Inlingua, a global intercultural communications organization based in Switzerland. Adolfo is also the owner and founder of Latino Midwest News and serves on the board of directors of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Minnesota.
 
Paul Christ received his M.S. in Agricultural Economics and his B.S. in Vocational Agriculture from Southern Illinois University and has studied Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. Paul has served as Vice President of Land O’Lakes, Inc. and occasionally takes on a foreign assignment for their International Development Division. He has also served as a Supervisory Agricultural Economist for the Dairy Division of USDA in Washington, DC and has foreign experience in Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Albania, Nigeria, Montenegro, Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, the former Soviet Union and Venezuela. 
 
Mary Corrigan received her MBA form St. Thomas University and has earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud University. She is a Sr. Director-Customer Development and Inside Sales for MoneyGram International. She has over 22 years of experience leading world class organizations. 
 
Marilyn Corrigan received her Masters degree in Student Personnel Services for the University of Denver, Denver Colorado. She earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Whitman College, Walla Walla, Washington. She is a Leadership Consultant of her own business and has taught MBA courses at the University ST. Thomas for 14 years. She has over 20 years of experience in Human Resource Management and 14 years of management consulting.
 
Dr. Larry Erickson received his Ed.D. in Leadership Development from Seattle University, his M.B.A. from Pacific Lutheran University, and his B.A. in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Erickson serves as senior partner of Erickson Associates - Strategic Planning and Leadership Development. He acted as an Academic Quality Improvement Coordinator, Strategic Planner, and Adjunct Professor in Strategic Management at Metropolitan State University. Dr. Erickson also served as Senior Skills Management Consultant and Career Advisor for Bernard Haldane Associates and was a Quality Improvement Director and Strategic Planner for the Boeing Company.
 
Dr. William A. Estrem received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University. He received his M.S. in Technology Education and his B.S. in Industrial Education from Eastern Illinois University. He has taught at the University of St. Thomas, the University of North Dakota, Illinois State University, and Mansfield High School. Dr. Estrem serves as a principal of Metaplexity Associates.
 
Judy Farniok received her MBA from St. Thomas University and earned her B.A. from St. Cloud State University. She is a Category Manager-GMCP-General Merchandise at Supervalu Inc. She has been with the company since 1991, starting as an Import Manager. Her experience includes: Market Analysis, Buyer-Produce Department, Retail Store Manager, and Produce Manager.
 
Dr. David Gardiner received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin. He comes to Saint Mary’s with over twenty years of experience in the application software business. The focus, including his Ph.D. work, has been in knowledge management improving productivity by providing people with the information and knowledge that they need. His professional experience includes; founder of DDx Search, LLC and co-founder of Net Perceptions, Inc. 
 
George Gleeson received his Industrial Relations degree from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School. He earned his Engineering and Technology Management degree from St. Thomas. He brings to Saint Mary’s 20 years of experience in developing and teaching classes in accounting and information systems.
 
Michael Gonzales received his BBA. Management from the University of El Paso, El Paso and earned his MBA from the University of St. Thomas. He currently works for Abbott Laboratories as a Government Reimbursement and Policy Executive. Within this position he represents Abbott Pharmaceuticals portfolio to the State Government of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Montana. His previous experience includes: Managed Care Executive, Medical Center/Professional Pharmaceutical Representative, District Sale Manager, and product Manager.
 
Dr. Lee Gremillion received his D.B.A. from Harvard Business School, his M.B.A from Columbus State University, and his B.A. from Louisiana State University. He has taught at Capella University School of Business, Indiana University and Boston University. He has served as a Consulting Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers and as a CEO of a small software development and consulting firm.
 
Robert Gust received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota and his B.S. in Finance for the University of Colorado. Robert served as a senior litigator for Hellmuth & Johnson, PLLC and as Vice President for Dady & Garner, PA. He currently serves as Chief Manager of the Gust Law Firm, PLLC.
 
K. David Hirschey received his M.A. in Industrial Relations and his B.S. in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Minnesota. He has taught business and leadership courses both domestically and internationally. David’s previous industry experience includes both managerial and executive positions at Xerox Corporation, Frito-Lay, and General Mills. He is the Past President of the Twin Cities Human Resources Association. David serves as the Principal of Personnel Management, Inc., a firm that provides leadership and support for strategic business planning, organizational design, and performance and leadership coaching. 
 
Bruce A. Johnson received his J.D. and B.E.E. degrees from the University of Minnesota. He teaches International Law, International Business, and Business Law at the University of St. Thomas and Catholic University of Uruguay. Having worked in Europe, Asian and Latin America, Bruce has significant experience with international business transactions including entity formations, joint ventures, licensing and distribution and general corporate matters. He served as European General Counsel, Corporate Compliance Officer, and Assistant General Counsel for Medtronic, Inc. Bruce currently practices with the International, Health Law, and Intellectual Property Groups at Fredrikson & Byron.
 
Dr. Nancy Johnson received her Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences from Walden University. She received her M.B.A. and B.S. degrees from the University of Minnesota. She has taught at the University of Minnesota, Metropolitan State University, and served as the Associate Dean of the School of Business and Technology at Capella University. Dr. Johnson has spent ten years in the IS industry and nine years in commercial banking. She has published extensively and traveled to more than fifty countries.
 
Ronald L. Leino received his M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and his B.B.A. from Iowa State University. Ronald has worked as Sales Manager of Liberty Carton Company and District Manager of Maytag Corporation. He has received leadership training from Dale Carnegie and is a business executive with 21 years of experience in sales, sales management and marketing. 
 
Victor C. “Vic” Massaglia received his M.A. in Human Resource Development from the University of St. Thomas, his B.A. in English Education from the University of Minnesota, Mankato, and his A.A. in Personnel Administration from the Community College of the Air Force. Vic has over 20 years of experience in communication, personnel administration, training and management. He was a Learning and Development Consultant for the Center of Business Excellence at the University of St. Thomas and served nine-and-a-half years in personnel in the United States Air Force. Vic currently acts as a career counselor at the University of Minnesota’s Law School and delivers presentations, seminars, and conducts one-on-one counseling sessions regarding career management, personal transition, and life/work issues.
 
John Murray received his M.B.A. and B.A. from Harvard University. He has taught at Indiana University, Notre Dame University, Tamkang University in Taiwan and the Carlson School of Management. He has served as the Vice President of Marketing for Miles Laboratories, a Fortune 500 company, as well as the President and founder of Dia Screen Corporation, a Minneapolis based biotech firm. John is the President and co-founder of CH Diagnostics, a global diagnostics company. He has been responsible for marketing teams in 22 countries and has traveled and worked in 45 countries. 
 
John “Jack” Neveaux received his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law, his M.A. in Drama from San Francisco State University and his B.S. in Communications and Theatre from St. John’s University. John has spent more than 20 years working on cases regarding organizational and transactional matters, employment, intellectual property, civil and criminal trials, and litigation management. Recently John serves as a consulting legal expert on email issues for a MNSAT broadcast to college and university campuses across Minnesota.
 
David Opp received his M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota and his B.A. from Macalester College. David has been a part of St. Mary’s since the program’s inception in 2004 and has taught graduate economics courses in the College of Business at the University of St. Thomas since 1980. He served as Economics Coordinator for five years and was honored with recognition as an outstanding teacher in 1988. His teaching experience abroad spans a variety of political-economic systems, which includes Canada, Uruguay, Ukraine, Taiwan and Greece. He has experience as a practicing economist, consultant, and entrepreneur in running a small import-export business with a sustainable development goal. His international travel experience includes more than fifty countries.
 
Donald St. Dennis received his M.I.M. from St. Thomas University and his B.E.S. in Journalism and Theatre from the University of Minnesota. He has 32 years experience as a writer, journalist, and public relations executive, as well as communications experience in media relations, crisis communication, cross-cultural communication, and corporate responsibility. Donald has worked as a public information specialist for the US Army, Defense Department and the State Department in the Republic of Vietnam, and has handled international communication projects in Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico and Asia.
 
Bob Schuneman received his M.B.A. in Marketing and his B.A. in Classical Languages and Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas. Bob has worked in marketing management for Thomson West and SYSCO Minnesota. He is a past board member for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota and currently served as the board chair for Career Solutions, Inc., a St. Paul based non-profit organization providing Displaced Homemaker Services throughout the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Bob is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Swanson Meats, Inc., a meat processor and foodservice distributor.
 
Thomas P. Schurino received his M.A. in Business Education from California State University and his B.B.A. in Marketing from Western Michigan University. He is also a graduate of the Institute for Organizational Management from the US Chamber of Commerce. Thomas served as Director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center at Muskegon, Michigan. He currently teaches at Muskegon Community College and the University of Phoenix and is the Executive Director of Sierra Vista Arizona Chamber of Commerce. 
 
John Schweers received his M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Wisconsin and his B.A. in English from Tulane University. John has experience in worldwide treasury operations, commercial and investment banking relationships, and foreign exchange and pension asset/liability management. He has served as Treasurer of Trane and Donaldson, Assistant Treasurer of American Standard, and as Cash Manager and International Subsidiary Controller for Texas Instruments. He is currently a consultant and Senior Vice President of DeMarche Associates, Inc., an investment-consulting firm based in Kansas City. 
 
James Edward Sullivan is a Doctor of Education Candidate for Saint Mary’s University. He received his Masters of Management Administration, Environmental Management from Metropolitan State University. He received his Doctoral of Jurisprudence from William Mitchell College of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Norbert College. He is a Planner Principal-Environmental Review Unit for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, since 1996. His current license and affiliations include: Member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Member of the Eastern and Western Federal District of Wisconsin, Member-Social for Risk Analysis. He has been a lecturer at  numerous continuing education events on environmental law. 
 
Richard Young received his M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and his B.S. in Engineering from the Unites States Military Academy, West Point. He has taught at the University of St. Thomas. He is currently an instructor in the Marketing and International Business department at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and developer of project management classes at Metropolitan State University.
