About the Program

 

As the need for professional counselors in communities, schools, colleges, and social agencies continues to grow, Saint Mary’s University remains committed to educating and training counseling students to help them prepare for licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC).

 The scope of practice of a licensed professional counselor includes, but is not limited to:

  • direct counseling services to individuals, groups, and families
  • counseling strategies that effectively respond to multicultural populations
  • the implementation of professional counseling treatment interventions including evaluation, treatment planning, assessment, and referral
  • knowledge of relevant laws and ethics impacting practice
  • crisis intervention
  • consultation
  • program evaluation and applied research
