Sara Wright is the Assistant Director and Practicum Coordinator of the Marriage and Family Therapy Programs.  She can be contacted at (612) 728-5117 or swright@smumn.edu.  She can be reached at Saint Mary's on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

REQUIRED PRACTICUM PAPERWORK

1. Students must submit a “Notice of Intention to Begin Practicum” form* at the beginning of the semester before the semester they will begin their practicum.  Forms are due:

                                                                                                                                     January 15 for Summer practicum

                                                                                                                                     May 15 for Fall practicum

                                                                                                                                     September 15 for Spring practicum

 

2. Students registering for practicum for the first time Spring 2007 must submit a Practicum Approval Form (PAF)* to the Practicum Coordinator by December 20, 2006.

 

3.. Students registering for practicum for the first time Spring 2007 must submit a Site Information Form (SIF)* to the Practicum Coordinator by December 20, 2006.

 

*All required forms are available outside the MFT Program Director’s office on the Twin Cities campus, LaSalle Hall, room 142.

 

Practicum students may begin counting clinical practicum hours on January 8, 2007.

 

PRACTICUM WORKSHOPS

MFT students who plan to register for MFT 670 (Practicum Seminar) must attend one of the practicum preparation workshops.  The goal is to prepare students with information about the practicum search, practicum regulations and process.  Information about the licensure process, integration paper (for Master’s students) and exit interview (for Certificate students) will also be provided.

Fall Semester 2006 Practicum Workshop Dates

Monday, November 6, noon-1pm

Tuesday, November 7, 4-5pm

Wednesday, November 8, 4-5pm

 

Students must attend a practicum workshop.  If the practicum workshops do not fit into your schedule, you may schedule an individual meeting with the Practicum Coordinator.

 

CONTINUING PRACTICUM REGISTRATION

Students who are already enrolled in a practicum section and wish to continue in the same section the following semester may send a written request by e-mail to the Practicum Coordinator at swright@smumn.edu.  These requests must be received no later than February 15, 2007.  We will make every effort to honor these requests, but cannot guarantee that continuation in the same section will be possible.

 

January 21, 2007 Graduation The signed advisor approval forms and four copies of the integration paper are due to Dr. Steve Peltier by November 1, 2006.  The Application for Graduation and Commencement is due to Student Services on or by December 1, 2006.  All academic requirements must be completed by January 5, 2007.

 

June 2007 Graduation The signed advisor approval forms and four copies of the integration paper are due to Dr. Steve Peltier by April 1, 2007.  The Application for Graduation and Commencement is due to Student Services on or by April 13, 2007.  All academic requirements must be completed by May 18, 2007.

 

October 2007 Graduation The signed advisor approval forms and four copies of the integration paper are due to Dr. Steve Peltier by August 1, 2007.  The Application for Graduation and Commencement is due to Student Services on or by August 17, 2007.  All academic requirements must be completed by September 21, 2007.

  

  

 

Program Orientation

MFT600 Program Orientation is a new requirement for students entering the marriage and family therapy training programs this fall.  It is a zero credit (that means that you don’t have to pay a fee for the course).  It will be offered on Saturday November 4, 2006 for 8:30 to 12:30.

This non-credit course provides an overview of the MFT program requirements, state licensure requirements, practicum procedures, and integration paper and oral examination expectations.

Student Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

 

  1. Identify and locate the online and published resources for MFT program requirements, including the integration paper and oral examination.
  2. Identify and locate the online and published resources for MFT licensure requirements.
  3. Describe the basic elements of the MFT Practicum, and the use of available practicum search resources.
  4. Identify informal resources for progressing through the MFT program and licensure process.
  5. Identify professional resources outside of Saint Mary's University which will be useful in the educational process and in career development.
