Saint Mary's University participates in the College Entrance Examination
Board Advanced Placement program (AP) and the College Level Examination
Program (CLEP).

Students with advanced placement (AP) test scores of 3, 4, and 5 may request
credit and advanced placement by submitting the scores to the Registrar.
Advanced placement is determined by the department chairs.
Credit is granted for appropriate CLEP subject examinations; credit is not
granted for CLEP general examinations.

Saint Mary's accepts advanced placement credits under the International
Baccalaureate High School Program (IBP). Academic departments accept scores
4 through 7 on the higher level exam only (with the exception of Foreign
Language). Examinations must be in subjects which are comparable to courses
in Saint Mary's curriculum.

Incoming freshmen who choose not to participate in any of the above mentioned
advanced placement programs may apply directly to Saint Mary's University for
advanced credit in mathematics, music, French, or Spanish. The student
applies for the advanced credit examination directly to the appropriate
department and may receive up to a maximum of eight semester credits. The
student should apply for advanced credit at the time of matriculation and no
later than the end of the first semester of attendance at SMU. A fee is
charged for some examinations.
