The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota Board of Trustees announced Thursday, Dec. 13, that Brother William Mann, FSC, D.Min. has been named the 13th president of the university.
Brother William will begin his term of office on June 1, 2008. Brother William, 60, is the former Vicar General of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. As Vicar General, he was the second-highest officer of the international Catholic teaching order that comprises 5,300 Christian Brothers, working in association with 73,000 lay educators to operate 930 schools and universities serving 900,000 students in 82 countries.

Brother Louis DeThomasis served as president from 1984 to 2005. During his presidency, Brother Louis guided Saint Mary's through an exciting period of change and growth in enrollment, facilities and programming, all while focused on the Lasallian mission of the university. From 2005 to the present, he has served as chancellor of the university, and as Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership. In these capacities he continues to contribute to the university's strategic visibility initiatives. Brother Louis accepted the request of the Board of Trustees to assume the duties of president on Feb. 9, 2007.
