Cotter Hall Fire

Cotter Hall is destroyed by fire

I regret to inform you that Cotter Hall is a total loss after an early Monday morning fire. The Winona Fire Department promptly responded shortly before 2:00 a.m. this morning. The building was in flames when they arrived. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. No one was inside or injured fighting the fire.

Built in 1876, Cotter Hall was used by the Christian Brothers and young men studying to become Brothers as a residence. It was also used as a dormitory for Saint Mary's College until 1990. The building has been used for storage since that time. At the time of the fire the university was considering plans for renovation.

I ask your cooperation in staying away from the building today as the Winona Fire Department continues to monitor it.
