The Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies program provides the opportunity to explore real-world problems of interest or that apply to professional or personal situations. Students combine perspectives from more than one field of study in learning and addressing issues. The foundational skills of critical inquiry, a developed ethical sensibility, effective communication, integrated thinking, and a socially responsible community outlook are developed and utilized. Consequently, the Integrative Studies program goals reflect the skills needed to work and flourish in a complex and multi-faceted world.
The Integrative Studies program suits those who want to develop a personal vision or interest that goes beyond the currently defined boundaries of traditional majors. It also prepares individuals appropriately for graduate and advanced professional work. |
Graduates of the Bachelor in Science in Integrative Studies program are expected to be able to do the following:
- Appreciate the interrelationships among academic fields of study.
- Apply integrative concepts and principles to their life and work.
- Utilize integrative thinking in problem solving.
- Develop integrative topics or themes for focused study.
- Communicate effectively in a variety of ways.
- Incorporate an ethical perspective into their life and work.
- Develop strategies for individualized and continuous learning.
- Work respectfully with diverse populations.
- Demonstrate the general education competencies required for graduation.

A minimum of 122 credits is required for graduation with a bachelor or science degree from Saint Mary’s University. All students must meet the 10 general education competencies. A minimum of 36 credits is required to complete the B.S. in Integrated Studies.
