Frequently Asked Questions

What are the admission requirements?
Admission requirements include an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution, earned with at least a 2.75 grade point average. If your grade point average is below 2.75, or is unavailable, you may be offered admission with provisional status.

Do I need to be a teacher to enter the program?
No.  Any person with a bachelors degree may enroll in this program.  Most often educators enroll, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, counselors and reading specialists.

When are classes held?
Classes are held at times convenient for working teachers—weekday evenings, weekends, and summer.

Where can I take classes?
There are cohorts available throughout Wisconsin. We have offered the program in Platteville, Ashland, Stevens Point, Whitefish Bay and elsewhere. Check with us [link to contact information page] to find the most convenient site for you.

When can I start the program?
You can apply now, and begin taking classes in any of the three semesters in which a cohort is offered in your area.

Does the program help me prepare a strong portfolio?
Yes. Our faculty and advisors are very familiar with the Wisconsin Standards, and will assist you in preparing a portfolio as the program’s culminating activity. Two classes, “Portfolio Design” and “Portfolio Production and Presentation,” specifically address creation of a portfolio that enriches your teaching while addressing the Wisconsin State Teaching Standards.

How is the program structured?
You take classes equal to 16 credits with your local cohort. The other 16 credits may be earned through independent study or approved elective classes.

May I transfer in credits?
Up to 6 graduate level credits may be transferred in. Check with us [link to contact information page] to determine what credits are eligible for transfer.
