To generate a list of P & D Final Papers use the following search terms:
Capstones Papers only = "capstone paper" and philanthropy.  PDMs and capstones = "project demonstrating mastery" or ("capstone paper" and philanthropy)

Indexes and Databases: Find Journal Articles and More
When you click on a subscription database from off campus you will be asked to supply your user name and password. Enter the same user name and password that you use for your other Saint Mary's accounts--e-mail, WebTools, Blackboard, etc. If you have access problems call Academic Computing at (507) 457-7800 or the Reference Desk at (507) 457-1562.

EBSCO Host Research Databases--your link to a collection of databases the most relevant of which are listed below.  Search singly or in combination.

Emerald--contains 58,000 searchable articles from over 110 scholarly Emerald journals. Focuses on management and leadership issues and includes international perspectives.

Google Scholar--"Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations."

LexisNexis--provides  U.S. and international news; company reports, news, and financial information; industry and market data; state and country profiles; legal news, research, and information; biographical and general reference information;  and access to medical and health journals.  information  tutorial

Management and Organization Studies Collection--full text access to Sage publications in the fields of organization studies, management, business, human resources, marketing, public policy, public administration, and industrial relations (1947- current issue).

Newspapers and NewsStand--access to over 500 national and international newspapers including full text for the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. (ProQuest)

ProQuest Databases--access here includes ProQuest Religion, ProQuest Education, Psychology Journals, and Wilson Education Abstracts among others. Just scroll through the list, select the appropriate database(s), and click on the "Continue" button.

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses--index to dissertations and theses in all fields of study.   Provides citations and/or abstracts,  as well as  a 24-page preview of any dissertations that have been digitized in the Humanities and Social Sciences fields. Coverage is from 1861 to present. (ProQuest)


Journal Finder--provides an A-Z list of all journals, magazines, and newspapers in the Fitzgerald collection, both online and in print. If the journal you are looking for does not appear in our Journal Finder, you may order the article needed from that journal through our interlibrary loan service.  If you are off campus and the journal article you need is available in one of our print journals, you can contact us to request a copy and we will mail it to you.

  • CASE--the Council for Advancement and Support of Education is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas. 
  • Charity Channel--"a resource that connects you to your nonprofit colleagues across town, across the country, and around the world," whose stated goal is "to create a place where nonprofit professionals can connect, learn from each other, share information and work together to advance the cause of philanthropy. "
  • Guide Star--the national database of nonprofit organizations. This is a directory of 850,000 IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations.
  • Grants.gov--one stop resource for those looking to apply for federal grants, brings together over 900 programs from 26 grant-making agencies.

  • Outcome Measurement Resource Network "As leaders in results-oriented philanthropy, United Way of America and United Way organizations across the country have championed the adoption of outcome measurement by health and human service programs. The Resource Network offers information, down loadable documents, and links to resources related to the identification and measurement of program and community-level outcomes."
