Steve Bouler is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. Dr. Bouler joined the Theatre Department at Saint Mary’s University in 2006. He holds a B.A. in English from Auburn University at Montgomery, an M.A. in English from Louisiana State University and a Ph. D in Dramatic Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is originally from Montgomery, Alabama and has been involved in theatre since he was 13. He teaches History of the Theatre, Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Script Analysis, Theatre Research, and Oral Communication. Steve has been teaching at the university level for almost twenty years. He was Director of Theatre at Tuskegee University, and has taught various courses in Theatre and English at LSU, Troy University, AUM, The College of Santa Fe, Cal Poly Pomona, Dominican College of San Rafael, Cal State Hayward, Ohlone College, Pasadena City College, the University of Judaism, and UCSB. He taught Theatre History and Dramatic Literature at Central College, and comes to SMU via Virginia State University where he worked to establish a theatre production program. Steve’s research interests include 18th Century performance history, theatre architecture, and the use of computer-based virtual reality in theatre history studies. He hosts a website which features his VR reconstructions of several historic theatres, including the Second Blackfriars’ Theatre (1608), and Christopher Wren’s 1674 Theatre Royal at Drury Lane. He has recently been commissioned by the Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery, Alabama to produce a VR reconstruction of the historic Montgomery Theatre of 1860.
His directing credits include Waiting for Godot, The Trojan Women, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Fences, Mud and Conduct of Life, spell #7, Dogg's Hamlet, Black Eagles: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen, The Constant Players, The Marriage of Figaro, The Rise and Ride of Daniel Rocket, On the Verge, and Playhouse Creatures.
