Brother Robert Smith is a tenured Associate Professor of Theology at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
In August 2003 he returned to the Winona campus of the university after three years of service as the Dean and Director of Christ the Teacher Institute for Education in Nairobi, Kenya, a program founded by and one that continues to be administered by Saint Mary's. A full-time faculty member in the Theology Department since 1989, he also serves the university as Vice President for Mission and as the Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. He holds a doctorate in Roman Catholic moral theology and has published 15 articles or book chapters and one book. In addition to his work at Saint Mary's, and in line with his vowed life as a DeLaSalle Christian Brother, he has lectured extensively and given retreats and workshops locally, nationally, and internationally on a wide variety of topics.
Smith to serve as VP at Bethlehem University Brother Robert Smith, FSC '76, Ph.D., assumed the duties as vice president for academic affairs at Bethlehem University of the Holy Land in August 2007. Brother Robert, a tenured associate professor of Theology at SMU, taught in the Theology Department for 25 years; he also served three terms as chair of the department. From 2000-2003 he was director of Christ the Teacher Institute of Education in Nairobi, Kenya, an institute of Saint Mary's University. Since his return to the university, Brother Robert had served the university as vice president for mission and the college as Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. Bethlehem University of the Holy Land is a Catholic, co-educational institution of higher learning founded in 1973. The first university in the West Bank, it was established with the support of local education leaders, the Vatican, and the De La Salle Christian Brothers to offer a broad and practical university education in arts and sciences to meet the needs of the Palestinian society. The university has an enrollment of about 2,600 students.
