Christopher (Kit) Mayer, Designer/Technical Director for the Performance Center and Theatre Department, holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. Kit has been at SMU since 1998 and teaches Set Design, Theatre Production, Theatre Crafts, and Special Topics in the areas of Stage Management, Theatre Sound, and others. Kit has worked professionally as a scenic and lighting designer for over 20 years, having designed in theatres from Maine to Alaska and in Europe and Australia. He has also been the resident designer for the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre in Alaska since 1994.
While continuing to freelance design, his main body of work is done here at SMU where his scenic designs include Ghost Sonata, Firebugs, Macbeth, O Jerusalem, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Cabaret, Fuddy Meers, The Misanthrope, Of Mice and Men, The Sea Gull, The House of Bernarda Alba, Piccaso at the Lapine Agile, Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, R.U.R., and Tartuffe. His lighting designs include The Ghost Sonata, The Sea Gull, Gypsy, Picasso at the Lapine Agile, R.U.R., Into the Woods, and more.
