How many semesters are in an academic year at Saint Mary's?

Saint Mary’s has three semesters, each equal in length – Fall, Spring, and Summer.

  • Fall: early September to late December
  • Spring: early January to late April
  • Summer: early May to late August

What time of day are classes held? How long are they?
Class sessions are generally from 6 to 10 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

What is the duration of a typical two-credit and three-credit course?
Two-credit courses generally meet for six weekly sessions and one Saturday session. Three-credit courses generally meet for eight weekly sessions and two Saturday sessions.

How many credits can I take? How many do I need to take to qualify for financial aid?
Students determine the number of credits they take (4 cr. = half time status, 8+ credits = full time status). Students must be registered for at least 4 credits to be eligible for financial aid.

What's the average courseload for a student? How long does it take the average student to complete the program?
Students take an average of six credits a semester. At this rate, they complete the program in about two years.

I was told to download a form off the website. Where are the forms located on the website?
Important forms that you will need throughout your time at Saint Mary’s can be found at http://www.smumn.edu/gradproforms.

Where do I register for classes? How do I get a username and password?
Registration takes place online through WebTools. Upon admission, you are given a username and password so you may log on.

WebTools won't let me register!! What do I do?
If you are experiencing problems with registration, you may email Lauren Pedersen, the program coordinator, with your registration request at lpederse@smumn.edu. Registration requests cannot be taken over the phone; they must be in writing.

What else can I use WebTools for, besides registration?
Students can also use Web Tools to view their schedule, grades, and tuition account.

What are the school policies? Where can I get a copy?
The Admission and Academic policies are outlined on pages 8 and 9 of the Catalog and Student Handbook. Students are expected to familiarize themselves with the policies.
