The Program Director
Gerald Ellis, Ed.D. Gerald Ellis earned his Ed.D. from the University of Saint Thomas, his M.A. in Liberal Studies from Hamline University, and his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. He held a variety of positions within the Prudential Insurance Company for eighteen years, and has been consulting businesses in areas such as organizational development, employee benefits, executive compensation, project management, conflict management, and leadership training since 1992.
Dr. Ellis has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Saint Thomas and a guest lecturer at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Since 1996, he has served as a program director and professor in the Ed.D, M.S. in Project Management, M.A. in Human Resource Management, and M.A. in Management programs. He was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award by Saint Mary’s in 1999.
The Faculty
Catherine Bartholet Catherine Bartholet received her M.A. in Organizational Leadership from the College of Saint Catherine and her B.S. from the University of Minnesota in Organizational Training and Development. She has been a Certified Project Manager through the Project Management Institute since 1996. For the past 18 years, Catherine has worked as a project manager for Qwest, ADC, United Health Care, Pearson NCS, Greater Twin Cities United Way, and Ameriprise Financial. She has taught in the M.S. in Project Management program since 2001.
Allan Carstens, Ph.D. Allan Carstens is a professional trainer with over 35 years experience in management and education. He earned his Ph.D., M.A., and B.S. in Mathematics from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Dr. Carstens worked for Unisys Corporation for 27 years in varying levels of project management, and has taught at Washington State University, Mankato State University, and Metropolitan State University of Minnesota.
In 2001, Dr. Carstens was invited to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota to serve on the task force called to define a curriculum for the M.S. in Project Management degree. He designed PRM601: Project Planning and Estimating, as well as PRM604: Risk Management and Quality Control. He currently teaches PRM689: Project Management Capstone on the Twin Cities Campus.
Gary Jurek, Ph.D. Gary Jurek earned his Ph.D. in Sociology with an emphasis on statistics and methodology from the University of Minnesota, and his B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Minnesota. He is president of Capitol View Consulting and has over 35 years training experience in both academic and corporate settings. His recent clients include: Medtronic, Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota School of Public Health, St. Paul Public Schools, Cargill, StorageTek, Lockheed-Martin, Unisys, DBM, and Best Buy Corporation. He is a Project Management Institute Registered Education Provider charter member.
Dr. Jurek was an assistant professor at Saint Mary’s University in Winona from 1977 – 1983, and continued to be affiliated with the Winona campus from 1984 – 2000. In 2001, he was invited to sit on the advisory committee that created the curriculum and course content for the M.S. in Project Management degree. He developed three of the six core program courses: PRM600: Fundamentals of Project Management, PRM602: Project Human Resource Management, and PRM605: Project Procurement and Cost Management. Dr. Jurek has been teaching in the M.S. in Project Management program since 2002.
Jean Wilhelm Jean Wilhelm began working as a project manager over 20 years ago and became certified as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute in 1999. She earned her M.S. in Health Administration from the University of Colorado and her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin. Jean’s proficiencies include health care, education, and financial service industries. She is a member of the Project Management Institute, the Chinese American Business Association, and the US – China Peoples Friendship Association of Minnesota. Jean has been teaching in the Project Management program at Saint Mary’s University since 2003. |
