Master of Arts in Public Safety Administration
Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Public Safety Administration is designed for public safety professionals seeking to increase their knowledge and skills to lead and manage public safety organizations. The safety and well being of our communities have become a greater challenge to public safety professionals because of our changing world. Public safety professionals must build partnerships, solve problems and protect assets and individuals while maintaining civil liberties. Service demands have exceeded budget capacity resulting in a need to be more effective and efficient in providing quality service on a daily basis and during natural and man made disasters. The Master of Arts in Public Safety Administration will provide graduates the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to lead and manage public safety organizations, increase partnerships in the community and with other organizations.



Program Outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Arts in Public Safety Administration should be able to:

  1. Lead and manage public safety organizations.
     
  2. Manage human resources to achieve strategic goals.
     
  3. Manage financial resources to achieve strategic goals.
     
  4. Create an environment to manage risk and promote quality.
     
  5. Foster public trust by implementing accountability and integrity processes throughout the organization.
     
  6. Create positive and productive working environments and working relationships with a variety of people.
     
  7. Evaluate the impact of the political, legal, social, ethical and policy environments that impact public safety.
     
  8. Apply appropriate technologies that solve problems or improve performance.
     
  9. Plan strategies to address current and future threats to the health and well being of communities, critical infrastructure and events/groups.
     
  10. Implement disaster recovery programs.
     
  11. Communicate in a variety of modes.
     
  12. Demonstrate critical thinking skills.
     13.  Work Effectively with diverse populations.

     14.  Understand the ethical implications of their actions.

     15.  Continue learning throughout their lives.
