As an international student studying in the U.S you must have health insurance. It is mandatory for all international students to be covered by a health insurance policy in the U.S.  Medical insurance will not cover dental expenses or any preventative medical care. If you choose to purchase our medical insurance, the Health Services at SMUMN - Winona Campus will assist you in your purchase of medical insurance upon arrival to campus.  Saint Mary's University of Minnesota offers two options :

1. You can purchase your own health insurance policy. If you purchase your own, make sure to bring the contract or a hard copy of the policy with you to the U.S. Click here for more information.

2. You can purchase our international student health insurance policy and once you arrive on campus, we will explain the policy and how the procedures work in a case a student needs any type of care.

 Confirmation Deposit

Accepted international students are required to submit a $300.00 confirmation deposit. Upon acceptance to Saint Mary's University, you will need to submit a confirmation deposit in the amount of U$ 300.00 to the university. The deposit is credit towards the student's first semester tuition. If the students fails to obtain a F-1 student visa from the U.S. Embassy, the university will refund the deposit upon receipt of the original INS Form I-20 issued to the student. The university will deduct an administrative processing fee of U$ 100.00 from the confirmation deposit prior to the refund. Any unpaid balance for tuition, books, student related fees, and room and board fees are to be paid in full at the start of each semester or special program.

Banking and Transferring Funds

For your convenience, the university offers personal banking services from 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m., Monday through Friday. Commercial banks are located approximately three miles from campus. You may  wire transfer money to Saint Mary’s University in advance of your arrival.
