How soon will I find out if I have been accepted?

Admissions decisions will be made regarding any applicant's status once the file is complete.


What information do I need to send to Saint Mary's University?

International Admission Requirements (Only if you are applying on the Winona campus)

1. Online or hard copy application (If you apply online, you do not need to pay the $ 40 application fee) www.smumn.edu

2. Financial Verification Forms  (original/official)

3. Official Transcripts (high school/college/university) translated into English

4. Evidence of TOEFL score - 550 paper, 213 computer, or 79 internet, required for undergraduate level admission (conditional admission - TOEFL scores between 495-549). For sending scores, Saint Mary's University's TOEFL code is 6632.

5. Personal Statement or Essay

6. If requested: SAT or ACT score

7. Copy of your passport

8. A U.S. $300 confirmation deposit after admittance



I cannot afford the tuition. What other options do I have?

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota will award $12,000 per year to qualified and accepted new students beginning fall semester 2007. (This option is only for international applicants who have been accepted into the Undergraduate Level. This option does not apply for applicants who have been accepted into ESL or Graduate Levels at SMUMN.)

Candidate eligibility 

  • Above-average grades from secondary school 
  • 550 TOEFL score *
  • Letter of recommendation from teacher or school administrator 
  • Outstanding performance, leadership potential and co-curricular activities 
  • Essay — How will I promote my country and culture to the Saint Mary’s University community?
* Students with a 495 - 549 TOEFL score are eligible for admission into the SMU Bridging Program and may apply for the scholarship.

Requirements for Recipients 

Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for academic or any other SMU scholarships during their undergraduate career at Saint Mary’s University. This scholarship is for undergraduate study on the Winona campus only or for approved SMU study abroad programs. 

In addition the student must:

  • Be an F-1 Visa holder. 
  • Live on campus. 
  • Remain in good academic and disciplinary status. 
  • Volunteer at least 25 hours per year working at or through the International Students Office. 
  • Bring a costume of traditional dress of your country.
