First-time students in Charts 1 through 3 refer to first-time, first-year, full-time Winona bachelor degree seeking students, commonly referred to as the cohort. The cohort is used for calculating graduation and retention rates for the College (see the Academic Profile section).
In the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs, the gender breakdown of students enrolled has remained between 64-66% female compared to 34-36% male over a five year period from 2003-2007. A more detailed look at of SGPP student enrollment reveals at the undergraduate level the ratio of female to male students has been more balanced than students at the graduate level. In fall 2007 the undergraduate enrollment in the SGPP was 53.8% female and 46.2% male, whereas at the graduate level, enrollment in the SGPP was 65.9% female and 34.1% male (see Chart 5). In the College the gender breakdown is nearer 50% female and 50% male; in fall 2007 the College enrollment was 53% female and 47% male.
The average age of students in the SGPP is 35 and the average age of students in the College is 20. The majority of students in the College remain within the age range of 18-24 years; in 2007, 95.9% of students were within the age range of 18-24. In contrast, students in the SGPP have been more evenly distributed across the range of ages. In fall 2007 the largest percentage of students, 27.8%, were in the 25-29 category (see Chart 7). Also of interest, nearly 9% of students in the SGPP were in the age range of 50-64 years in fall 2007.
