Toner Student center 8B– Ext. 6936
The main goal of the Office of Volunteer Services is to uphold the university’s mission statement which states, “… Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota awakens, nurtures, and empowers learners to ethical lives of service and leadership.” First-year students are introduced to a variety of volunteer opportunities further acquainting them to the Lasallian philosophy of faith, zeal and service to society.
Volunteer Services coordinates activities between the volunteer mentors and non-profits in the local Winona area. Some of the work we do, but is not limited to, is fold clothes at Winona Volunteer Services, take food to government assisted housing unites with the Winona Catholic Workers and serve breakfast with Early Childhood Education.
In addition to local volunteer opportunities, Volunteer Services connects with other Lasallian educational systems and plans opportunities to visit their schools. Planned trips to the San Miguel schools in the Minneapolis and Chicago areas are taken during October break.
We also provide an opportunity for students to participate in a mission trip. Most recent trips have included traveling to Biloxi, MS to help with Hurricane Katrina relief. These trips usually take place over a scheduled school break. |
