Dr. Jon Kabara ’48 and his wife, Betty, are challenging others to partner with them to help aspiring young entrepreneurs at Saint Mary’s University.
Dr. Kabara, an entrepreneur in the field of medical research, knew he wanted to share his passion, spirit and know-how with the businessmen and women of tomorrow. In 2005, the Kabaras began their commitment of supporting the growth of entrepreneurship at Saint Mary’s University. Through a transformational gift, Dr. Jon and Betty Kabara established the Kabara Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies.
The Kabara Institute aims to incite a passion for entrepreneurial spirit in students across the university, regardless of their major field of study, to enhance the entrepreneurship program offerings at Saint Mary’s University by providing opportunities for students to interact with entrepreneurs and experience entrepreneurship first-hand, and to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in our society.
The Kabaras invite alumni, friends, and parents of the University to join them in building the spirit of entrepreneurship on campus through volunteering their time, talents, and treasures.
This fall, Saint Mary’s students have continued to learn from alumni who are current entrepreneurs and can testify to the many journeys of self-employment. Nearly 100 undergraduate students who are passionate about entrepreneurship have enjoyed attending alumni panels, field-exploration trips to local businesses, keynote speakers, and recently submitting their ideas to the Institute’s very first Small Business Plan Competition. The Institute functions through the support of our generous alumni, parents, and friends who have a vision for educating students on the importance of entrepreneurship. Dr. Kabara believes the future of our country and our society is tied to successful entrepreneurship.
