The Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership is an educational enterprise of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and serves as an educational and transformational resource to the community. The Institute was established by William Hendrickson, Ph.D., to turn around a disturbing trend of declining ethical leadership in a global society. The mission of the Institute is to serve both current and emerging leaders. It is an academic resource for Saint Mary's University and the community , and a forum for exploration of ethical issues. As part of its mission, the Institute strives to provide programs that encourage and develop ethical, globally oriented leaders; offer integrative leadership models; and promote ethical principles that are practical and infuse leaders with an appreciation of spirituality and free enterprise. |
In society today there is a widely held public perception that major decision-makers lack an ethical foundation and do little to deal with complex social issues within their organizations. The Institute is founded on the premise that it is possible and essential to integrate functional leadership models and ethical principals into every profession. |
The Institute supports and emphasizes ethical leaders who strive for, practice and demonstrate the following:
- an attitude that embraces diversity, differences and ambiguity;
- an appreciation for the gift of globally diverse cultures including our own,
- a creative imagination that leads not to change, but to transformation;
- the language of stewardship and abundance that transcends ideology;
- an acceptance of and enthusiasm for the positive integration of faith and finance;
- an unwavering commitment to do good and to give more,
- and faith that the outcome of giving more is that we receive more for ourselves, and for all of humankind.

Since its beginning in 1994, the Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership has provided Saint Mary's University with traditional
undergraduate scholarships and the Tomorrow's Leaders High School Scholarship Program. It has grown to
become a network of programs committed to educating current and emerging leaders. Existing programs include the
Corporate Directors Academy, Servant Leaders Academy, and the Business Owners' Round Table. |
As the Institute strives to follow its mission, it becomes more vital and visible within the community.We are
seeking commitments from individuals and organizations that share the passion for emerging ethical leadership
based on trust, caring, and character development. Funding will help sustain current and future programs, forums,
round table discussions, trade visits, a chair in executive leadership, and a moral lecturer in residence. Through funding,
promoting, and nurturing ethical leaders, we can be effective agents who transform people and organizations;
who infuse a new dynamic of innovation that make life better for all; and who create an ethical capitalism that is
sustainable. We can make a difference. |
