Local Business Tour:
Wenonah Canoe

Mike Cichanowski, Owner of Wenonah Canoe, explains to the Saint Mary’s Advanced Entrepreneurial Seminar class the process of forming and creating a world famous Wenonah kayak. Today, Wenonah Canoe is among the largest makers of canoes and through Cichanowski’s vision for light weight products, his business has continued to grow into the next strongest kayak manufacturer.

Saint Mary’s students gain first hand experience outside of the classroom through local business tours. Learning the importance of business operations can be critical to an entrepreneur’s success and Saint Mary’s students continue to gain a competitive advantage through Kabara Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies program offerings.

Chicago Convention:
Feb. 28 - Mar. 1, 2008

Seniors Andrea Hill and Sheila Tierney received the 2008 Student Business Plan Competition award for their work creating Spectrum Printing and Design. Each year, students receive monetary support to encourage creative thinking and discovery of their entrepreneurial dreams by submitting a business plan for approval. Andrea and Sheila spoke at the 2008 Chicago Convention to prospective students, parents, and alumni regarding their entrepreneurial thoughts and plans.

Students Bailey England, Katie Drazkowski, and Nikki Kolupailo enjoy representing the Kabara Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the 2008 Chicago Convention. England, Drazkowski, and Kolupailo represent a portion of active students who benefit from programming, educational awareness, and networking provided by the Institute.

Field Exploration Trips
This winter, Saint Mary’s students participated in the Institute’s first Field Exploration trip. Understanding a local business market is one thing, but feeling confident to market, operate, and sell in neighboring markets is another. Students pose for a quick picture with Tim ’85 and Mark ’86 Smithe of Walter E. Smithe Furniture.  These Chicago brothers and Saint Mary’s graduates have their arms around the competition and provided great incite to our students.
