Founder's Day is an annual event to celebrate the founding of Saint Mary's University by Bishop Patrick R. Heffron in 1912. The day's events included morning Mass and afternoon Convocation, where every two years an award named after Bishop Heffron is given to a faculty or staff member to honor their superior service to the university. Two students were also chosen as Outstanding Male Senior and Outstanding Female Senior by faculty, staff, and their fellow senior classmates.
This year's Founder's Day address was presented by Dr. Roxanne Eubank, professor of education. Dr. Eubank's address, titled "Together and by Association," encompassed much of what the audience, consisting of Saint Mary's University faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, family, and previous honorees, would hear from the award presenters and recipients that day.
Dr. Eubank stated, "In the Lasallian tradition, the phrase 'Together and by Association' is used frequently. It was the foundation of the vows taken by the first Brothers." She went on to ponder these words, deciding they have a special meaning at Saint Mary's University.
"We work together in our smaller communities – departments, divisions, classrooms, boards, dormitories, committees, clubs, schools, and campuses. We work in association with all the other members of our university community and the worldwide Lasallian community to provide education to the young and especially the poor."

In working together, these presenters and recipients have accomplished extraordinary things. But, all of the award winners were quick to point out it is their work in association with others that makes the Saint Mary's University community a great place to be.
